Have you ever been snuggling up to your significant other only to get scratches or roughed up by their facial hair? Don’t you wish there was something you could do to make their beard and mustache softer? There is!

Mustache and beard balm is a great product that conditions and moisturizes a man’s facial hair while also helping to tame it. Using a beard balm will increase the health of the beard and decrease itchiness and damaged facial hair.

This DIY Mustache and Beard Conditioning Balm is awesome because it’s made with great, organic ingredients that don’t contain any endocrine disruptors. Also, beard balms can sometimes be expensive. It’s much cheaper to make it yourself – not to mention, easy!

What makes this balm so great? Coconut oil, a favorite of mine, is fantastic for conditioning and moisturizing hair. It will help make the beard softer and, due to its conditioning properties, it will make the roots of the facial hair healthier. It also makes the beard shinier and can improve the the the skin quality under the beard as well.

Olive oil, another ingredient on this recipe, is a nourishing oil that is full of antioxidants and great for the skin and hair. Red Raspberry seed oil and Argan oil are a great source of vitamin E and it will help make skin and hair more moisturized and healthy.

Tea tree oil is an excellent cleansing oil while lavender oil prevents hair loss and also promotes hair growth. Calendula oil also promotes hair growth and strengthens hair.

The beeswax helps give your balm hold while also nourishing the facial hair with vitamin A.

If you’re just making this recipe for mustache or a very small bear, cut the recipe in half.

Ingredients:

Instructions:

You need to begin by melting the first four ingredients and combining them together. I prefer the double boiler method but you can also use a microwave if necessary.

To use the double boiler method, place a small pot of water on the stove over medium heat. Measure your olive oil, coconut oil, shea butter and beeswax pellets into a glass jar and place the jar in the pot of water. Stir as ingredients melt until they are all combined.

If you are using a microwave to melt your ingredients, measure them into a medium-size glass bowl and place in the microwave. Heat in 30 second intervals, stirring after each interval, until the wax is melted and all the ingredients are mixed well.

Transfer the melted ingredients into a medium-size glass bowl. If you want to mix the rest of the ingredients in the container where you melted them, that’s fine too.

Add your raspberry oil or argan oil. Then add, tea tree and lavender essential oils to the mixture. Stir well.

This next step is optional but it gives it a better texture. Once the mixture starts solidifying, beat it with a hand mixer for two minutes until the mixture is light and fluffy.

If you skip this step, then transfer the melted ingredients into your glass jar now and wait for it to set.

Once you’re done mixing it, transfer your beard balm to the glass jar where you plan to store it. I usually divide the mixture into 2 jars 4 ounce jars.

Store your mustache and beard balm in and air-tight container until you’re ready to use it.

Since this recipe doesn’t use any water, this beard balm is good for 4-6 months. Just make sure that wash your hands before sticking your fingers in the balm.

How to apply beard balm?

You can apply it any time of the day, but for best results you should use it after you’ve showered. Make sure your beard is dry and apply the balm all over your beard.

You will need very little to nourish your beard, so start by applying a small amount and use more as needed. If you apply too much of the beard balm, just wipe off with a towel.

To apply just rub the balm between your hands and distribute it evenly all over your beard. Make sure you don’t miss a spot!

At least once a month, you should apply the beard balm at night so you can do a deep conditioning of your beard. When doing this, apply more beard balm than usual and go to sleep. It’s that simple!

This would make an excellent gift for Father’s Day, birthday or Christmas!
